Eat, Pray, Love (Part 1)

The movie Eat, pray, love is about Liz Gilbert (Julia Roberts) had everything a modern woman is supposed to dream of having a husband, a house, a successful career like so many others, she found herself lost, confused and searching for what she really wanted in life. Newly divorced and at a crossroads, Gilbert steps out of her comfort zone, risking everything to change her life, embarking a journey around the world that becomes a quest for self-discovery. In her travels, she discovers the true pleasure of nourishment by eating in Italy, the power of prayer in India, and finally and unexpectedly, the inner peace and balance of true love in Bali.
Looking for the concept of intercultural communication, I try to associate with the cultural element in this story. I found the director is trying to bring viewers the story in a familiar culture from three different countries Italy, India and Indonesia. Some of the culture component can be seen in this story including symbols, language, norms, belief, values, and worldview. We can see clearly seen when Liz experienced to adapt with other language, cultural norms of some societies, beliefs and cultural orientation of society. When she was in Italy, she found a man named Luca Spaghetti. He is and an ethnocentrism and he tried to judge about American people culture without truly understanding the meaning and concepts behind that culture. At the same scene, she was taught the way of Italian communications rules where they use hand gesture to express their words and feeling. This is a theory that relationship between culture through cultural variability in communication.

Tomorrow, i will bring you to explore her experience in India and Bali. Don't forget to follow ya!!
